 Embrace Life With Passion
by Ty Howard

"It is difficult to lay aside a confirmed passion." ~ Caius Valerius Catullus

I recently watched for the eightieth time a movie that is now a part of my "Best of the Best Movie Collection."  The movie I speak of is Men of Honor.  In my opinion, "It's a movie that will inspire and blow you away!"

Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Robert De Niro deliver powerhouse performances in this triumphant film inspired by the life of Carl Brasher.  Men of Honor tells the courageous story of an African American sailor, Carl Brasher (Gooding), who dared to dream of becoming a U.S. Navy Master Diver. Despite a ruthless training officer (De Niro) and a tragic shipboard accident, Carl's iron will is never broken. Carl through relentless triumphant struggles not only becomes the U.S. Navy's first African American Master Diver, he also becomes the Navy's first amputee diver.

I was in awe throughout the movie as I watched Carl, against all odds, pushes on to achieve the impossible in an incredible finish that will leave you cheering. This is a movie worth seeing more then once, if you asked me!

As a growing child, my mother continuously encouraged me to find something I was truly passionate about and keep working at it and towards it. After watching the movie Men of Honor, again and again, I've notice that this movie captures my mother's philosophy on "PASSION" 100%.

Once a person identifies and confirms their passion, it will be almost impossible for anyone to stop them from accomplishing their goal.

In the movie Men of Honor, Carl Brasher would not allow anything to stop him from making his dream come true. There was no doubt in Carl's mind that he was going to be the U.S. Navy's first Master Diver.

The scene that connected with me most was the scene where Carl wasn't doing well on the U.S. Navy's Diving School Training Tests and the school instructor told Carl, "If you fail one more test, you're out of the diving school program.  Carl decided to go to the local library for help on how to better study for the test.

When Carl arrived at the local library, he met a young lady who worked there part-time while in college. He asked her for help and she challenged him by asking him, "Why do you want this so bad?!" Carl's response was empowering to me. He responded, "Because they told me I couldn't have it!" Carl Brasher (Gooding), said those words with Power, Purpose and PASSION!

And I was both moved and sold!

How many times has someone told you, "You can't have that. Try something else... that's too big for you. Be more realistic"?

I know I have, several times.
If I only collected $10,000.00 from all the people who passed those words off to me, I would be a wealthy man now."

You know what's even worse—a person telling themselves they can't have it.

A person laying aside your passions for the sake of playing it safe.

Life is good! And life is meant to be lived to the fullest.

Your past situations or current circumstances may not be appealing; however, if you take on the

Ask yourself and write-down the answer today:
1) Where can I learn?
